Hi everyone, in this video I will show you another position to strengthen your shoulder girdle or scapular stabilizers for shoulder pain relief. These are more advanced exercises which require you to be in a pushup position or quadruped (on all fours). Before you try these positions you should focus on getting stronger and getting more motor control with the easier exercises I discussed in my previous two posts: Shoulder Injury Pain Strengthening Exercises Scapular Stabilization and Shoulder Pain Treatments – Shoulder Pain Scapula Exercises
These weight bearing positions put more stress on the joint and your shoulder has to be stronger for these exercises. Plus you want to make sure these exercises don’t cause you more pain since they cause some joint compression. Remember if it hurts, especially having pain in the joint, you have to stop the exercise.
Shoulder Pain Relief Exercises
1. Quadruped (on hands and knees) shoulder strengthening exercises – these work on your shoulder girdle or scapular stabilizers, trunk muscles, legs and arms.
2. Push up position with scapular strengthening exercises – this is a more difficult exercise and really puts a lot more pressure on the shoulder. So you have to be careful when doing this exercise since it requires a lot of strength and puts more strain on the shoulder joint. It also works on your trunk and abdominal muscles, building core strength.
These shoulder pain relief exercises will help you strengthen your scapular stabilizers to get you ready for training the next group of shoulder muscles. In our next video I show you how to start strengthening your rotator cuff muscles.
