1.) Question: I just wanted to know your opinion on turmeric supplement. What is the brand/dosage recommended? Thanks and all the best!

2.) Question: Can cinnamon be a substitute for ginger?
Answer: Cinnamon improves circulation and is also heating. Different properties, ginger is heating too, but it is also a pain reliever, improves digestion, for the respiratory system, etc. Depends on the condition and reason for substituting it.
3.) Question: Manu can you tell something to control Uric Acid. I am taking Zyloric for it but to be honest not regularly. Is there any permanent solution for the problem, as taking medicines is quite horrible to me. One more thing I have been doing Aerobics since December’11 and have reduced 10 Kg (from 84 Kg to 74), and for it I am on less Carbohydrate and high protein diet. I also tried Apple cider Vinegar (2 spoon) + One glass of water. But I read somewhere on the internet that it can cause osteoporosis, I discontinued. Please reply because I have pain in knees and swelling in ankle’s bone. During the Aerobics I have to wear knee cap also.
Answer: I am glad the information is helpful. Why are you consuming a high protein diet? Uric Acid levels are increased by a high protein diet. Kaishore Guggulu is used in Ayurveda for red, hot, painful, swollen joints or tissues. Focus on blood and liver cleansing herbs/spices – turmeric, guduchi, triphala, etc. Drinking 1 glass of water with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar won’t cause osteoporosis. I haven’t observed this. Regular massage with castor oil for hot, swollen and painful joints, specially inflamed joints is very helpful. Follow my simple non weight bearing knee strengthening exercise videos. Also look into doing Panchakarma to detox and rejuvenate the system. Hope this helps.

5.) Question: Doesn’t skipping meals put your body into starvation mode or is that a myth?
Answer: “yo yo dieting”, crash dieting and caloric restrictions done for long periods can put the body in starvation mode, change your body’s set point. Fasting done properly and regular intervals combined with balanced healthy meals has lots of benefits.
6.) Question: Hi Manu – Thanks for the tips. Just wondering, I have sugar issues. Does it have to be honey? Can it be unsweetened cranberry juice?
Answer: Ayurveda is not against using small quantities of honey even for people who have sugar issues. Of course honey has to be taken in moderation after checking with your MD to determine the ratio of sugar and honey that must be maintained. Honey has astringent/drying qualities that help with fat scraping. It would be better to avoid the unsweetened cranberry juice and just have the hot water alone. Turmeric, bitter melon, Amalaki, Shilajit, cinnamon, fenugreek are helpful for sugar issues.
7.) Question: Can you lose weight without eating salads?is it really a must?
Answer: Yes definitely, you can lose weight without eating salads. Most parts of the world people don’t eat salads. They cook vegetables, which makes them easier to digest. Especially if you add some spices, etc.
8.) Question: Can you please give information about balancing hormones? I’ve been having issues, and no doctor has been able to pinpoint the problem. Have been watching all your videos and find them very helpful.
Answer: Balancing hormones is a complex issue. You have to work at settling down the nervous system, which responds to structure and regularity. Regular eating, sleeping, exercise, and relaxation times. Yoga breathing exercises like Pranayama are very helpful – start with Alternate Nostril Breathing and Ujjayi breathing. Make sure to add corpse pose to your routine. Check out my site tridoshawellness(dot)com for more info.

11.) Question: Great video, where do I get Guggulu?

12.) Question: I have a weak digestive power. Constipation is a my very common problem and doctors always says that I get stomach infection every now and then. I am looking for a herbal product which is safer to take on daily basis and keep me out of all my stomach infections, gastric and constipation issues. I will really appreciate if you can help.
Answer: Triphala is very helpful for improving overall health of the digestive system, Ghandhrav Haritaki for stomach and constipation. 16.) Question: Do you know what causes Gastroparesis? And do you know anyone that reversed Gastroparesis or healed it? Thank You.
Answer: As per Ayurveda Gastroparesis would be secondary to impaired downward flow of Vata – energetic principle of movement, regulates the nervous system, the master controller. In addition to impaired flow, agni or digestive fire is impaired resulting in digestive issues. Pacifying Vata or restoring proper downward movement of vata combined with improving digestive capacity would take care of the problem. You should look into having an Ayurveda or TCM consultation.
