What exercises should you start if you have a knee joint injury that’s causing pain and weakness?
If your injury is recent and the knee feels weak you risk further injury if you do higher level exercises or activities such as jumping or running. I would recommend doing non-weight bearing exercises for a few weeks and avoid jumping or running. Once it starts to feel a bit stronger you can progress to higher level exercises in standing or using weights. Make sure you focus on balance, coordination, motor control and functional re-training before you decide to run or jump.
For faster recovery after knee injuries follow the guidelines in our Build Better Knees Recovery Kit.
Herbal supplements can also help improve the strength of the joints and muscles. Ashwagandha and herbal formulations with Guggulu are some good joint/muscle supplements. Regular massage with Mahanarayan oil, Sesame oil or Ashwagandha/Bala oil can also help strengthen the joint and local muscles.
You want to make sure the joint doesn’t have any instability or muscular weakness before you start to run, jump or do higher level activities. Joint instability will result in wear and tear on the joint and possibly arthritic changes.
Herbal solutions discussed for faster recovery after injury:
- Kaishore guggulu tablets for reducing pain and inflammation
- Ashwagandha powder for improving strength
- Mahanarayan oil for faster joint recovery
- Ashwagandha Bala Oil to improve joint and muscle strength
- Yogaraj Guggulu tablets for joint recovery and pain relief
