In this video I am going to share with you why some people have a difficult time healing after injuries and have poor health. One of the main reasons why people don’t heal is because of accumulation of toxins in the body. Excess toxins in the body will block channels, impair proper functioning of the cells and prevent the injured tissue from healing.
I list some common signs of toxins in the body. What to look out for and how to detox to remove toxins and improve your health.
Hi everyone! This is Manu Kalia, a physical therapist and Ayurveda herbalist. Today I want to share with you some signs of accumulation of toxins within the body.
If there is excess of toxins within the body, not only that will lead to disease but also overall poor quality of health. For example, I see in a lot of patients that I treat after injuries or when recovering from injuries, that they are having a really difficult time recovering.
They are doing the physical therapy part, for example, exercises and body mechanics incorporated into their rehabilitation routine, manual therapy such as joint mobilization or soft tissue mobilization is being done also and other modalities.
Even with all that is happening, if the person is not healing, then you always need to check what else is going on internally within the body?
One of the main reasons I find is excess of toxins within the body, which are impairing the recovery process, causing poor health of the injured tissue or just the whole body for that matter.
The accumulation of toxins will often block fine channels within the body that are delivering nutritions to the tissue or the cells and also removing waste products or metabolic waste products from the tissue. When these functions are impaired, the tissue is not going to get the appropriate nutrition and it just impairs the whole healing process.
One of the things that I often consider when I am treating patients is that if the rehabilitation process is not going well or if the person is just not healing even when they are doing all the right things, I need to look at what else is going on internally within the system of that patient?
It is very important to determine if there is accumulation of those toxins and if so to detox the system, so that the person can heal better and faster.
This is often seen with lots of other health problems also. One of the other examples is with weight loss. Often if there is excess of toxins within the body, the metabolism gets impaired, digestion is impaired and you are just not able to lose weight.
This is either because the metabolic functioning of the cells is impaired and they just cannot burn fat effectively or assimilate nutrition properly or excrete and get rid of toxins or other waste products. As you can see it causes lots of different health problems.
I want to share with you some basic or simple signs to look for to determine if you have an accumulation of waste products or excess toxins within the body. I am going to base my observations according to the basic ayurvedic guidelines.
One of the things to think about is that if you’ve digestive issues. If the person has constipation, heaviness, bloating, excess gas, and all these kinds of digestive problems going on — that is one sign.
Second thing is just mentally and physically feeling sluggish and slow, and the thinking isn’t clear.
Third thing is waking up in the morning, feeling achy, painful joints, stiff and it just takes a while to get going and even mentally feeling kind of sluggish and slow and just heavy.
Fourth thing to think about is if the person has a coated tongue especially in the mornings when you wake up.
Remember in Chinese as well as ayurvedic or Tibetan medicine, looking at the tongue is a major diagnostic tool, which tells you about the overall health of the internal system. If the tongue is coated, whether it is white coating, yellowish, greenish or dark coating, it can be a sign of toxins within the body, especially in the gastrointestinal or GI tract. So that is another sign to look out for.
Often getting colds or repeated colds or just getting sick frequently, again you know there are toxins in the body that are also impairing immunity, so that can be another sign also.
If you are experiencing or if you are noticing these signs within the body then there is high likelihood there is excess of toxins within the body and detox measures should be done to improve the overall health of the system.

I have other things listed too and also some detox methods and strategies are also listed that you can incorporate in your daily life and improve your health, but I will share here couple of basic methods to detox the body and improve your health.
One of the methods is just fasting or intermittent fasting, which has gained quite a bit of popularity lately but that as I have mentioned in some of my earlier posts and videos also, it has been around for thousand of years.
Intermittent fasting will improve the digestive capacity or digestive fire, which will also improve your ability to burn toxins within the body, give the digestive fire a break too from regular consumption of food. If your digestion is better, it will improve your metabolism, it will also burn up toxins within the body.
The other thing to do is having a simple tea after your meals — a cumin, coriander and fennel tea — three spices boiled in water and enjoying that tea after each meal will not only detox the body it will improve your metabolism and digestion also.
Ginger is very good for regular consumption. So is turmeric, which is that yellow spice used in Indian cooking which is also very good for detoxifying and improving overall health of the system.
Avoiding all ice cold things — so no iced water or iced cold drinks — they impair digestion and can cause more accumulation of toxins in the body.
No heavy meats such as pork, beef and lamb or for that matter taking cheese or fried foods or excess of sweets — all these kind of foods are much heavy and harder to digest if you already have excess of accumulation of toxins within the body.
Avoid these heavy foods and take only lighter foods so that you do not tax the digestive fire and your body does notaccumulate more toxins.
